The NASCAR Foundation Track Walks 'GO PINK' to Fight Breast Cancer in October
The NASCAR Foundation will join the fight against breast cancer by partnering with Susan G. Komen for the Cure® for two track walks during the month of October at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C. and Memphis Motorsports Park in Memphis, Tenn.
While much slower than the roaring speed of a NASCAR stock car, walking on the actual race track just hours before a NASCAR race can be a thrill of a lifetime for any race fan. A NASCAR Foundation Track Walk is a great event for friends and family members looking for entertainment at the track between race activities.
"We are thrilled to be working with Susan G. Komen for the Cure for these important events," said Betty Jane France, chairperson for the NASCAR Foundation. "NASCAR's fan base is 40 percent female, making this a very relevant cause for the foundation to be involved with and support."
Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer and is the leading cause of death among women worldwide. More than 1.3 million women are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer each year.
The NASCAR Foundation Track Walk presented by Pink Ribbon Banking benefiting Susan G.Komen for the Cure only at Bank of America at Lowe's Motor Speedway is scheduled for Oct. 17 at 10 a.m. and will benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure as it continues to raise awareness for breast cancer early detection and prevention, as well as Speedway Children's Charities and The NASCAR Foundation as they continue to work in support of children and families in need. The NASCAR Foundation Track Walk sponsored by Genentech at Memphis Motorsports Park is set for Oct. 24 at 11 a.m.
Online registration for both events is now live and all online pre-registered walkers or online fundraisers who raise a minimum of $30 are guaranteed a commemorative Track Walk "Go Pink or Go Home" t-shirt. The top online fundraiser for the walk at Lowe's Motor Speedway will receive pre-race pit passes for Saturday's "NASCAR Banking 500 only from Bank of America" and the opportunity to participate in a pre-race check presentation. All online fundraisers will be entered into weekly drawings for NASCAR prizes. The NASCAR Foundation's online tools makes fundraising easy and allows individuals to set personal goals and contribute to the cause without having to actually be present at the event. The Foundation will also have pink NASCAR Foundation lanyards available at track for a $10 donation with 50% of the net proceeds benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Click here to get your lanyard online!
The NASCAR Foundation is still looking for additional volunteers for a variety of at-track opportunities throughout the month of October. Volunteer needs include NASCAR Day fundraising and assistance with at-track walk registration, distribution of information and several other event-related tasks (Lowe's Motor Speedway and Memphis Motorsports Park only).
