Lowe's Motor Speedway Christmas Tree Lighting And Speedway Children's Charities Grant Distribution

Thursday, Dec. 6, 6:30 p.m.

What: H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler, president and general manager of Lowe's Motor Speedway, and Scott Smith, president of the Charlotte chapter of Speedway Children's Charities, will light a one-of-a-kind Christmas tree at the main entrance to Lowe's Motor Speedway and distribute in excess of $700,000 to 64 local organizations on behalf of Speedway Children's Charities. The money will assist nonprofit charities making a direct and significant impact in the lives of children in need.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony that will include lighting a 50-foot Christmas tree; holiday music; refreshments and appearances by Lug Nut, the world's fastest mascot; and Santa Claus.

When: Thursday, Dec. 6. Festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. with the tree lighting scheduled for 6:52.

Where: Avenue of Flags in front of Smith Tower at Lowe's Motor Speedway. The track is located at the intersection of Speedway Blvd. and Highway 29.

Who: H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler, president and general manager of Lowe's Motor Speedway, and Scott Smith, president of Speedway Children's Charities' Charlotte chapter, will present checks to representatives from each of the local organizations. Retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Tom Sadler, executive director of Speedway Children's Charities; will assist in distributing the funds.

Details: The Holiday Tree Lighting provides an excellent backdrop for television live shots and print photo opportunities. Participants will be available for brief interviews following the program.
